Food, Inc : You should really watch this.

Know what you're eating. Know where it comes from. Know what it costs, and not just to you at the supermarket - to the farmers, to the animals, to the planet, and to your health and well-being. Watch this movie, now, and then tell someone else to. (Please?)

Excellent recommendation -- thank you. I have recommended this film to others as well.
It hurts to watch the way we treat other sentient beings, but it is necessary viewing because for most people it's out of sight, out of mind.
The most disturbing part for me was how the chicken yelps sounded like a helpless cat. And the other chicken's facial expression of utter disbelief when he witnessed his kind being slaughtered right in front of him. All of this happening on the supposedly more compassionate free-range farm!
"Earthlings", narrated by Joaquin Phoenix is another good documentary.
I've only been strict veg since 2nd year university (13.5 years now -- wish I had started earlier), but I can't help but feel that people are monsters to continue to slaughter animals when there is absolutely no need to. Even after they've watched documentaries like this. How do you do it? How do you keep an open mind about people around you who don't have compassion for animals?

Thanks for the recommendation AM. I'll definitely check out "Earthlings". And yes, it is hard to keep an open mind about people who aren't compassionate about animals. I try to surround myself with people who are. Getting into my profession, that's been easier, of course. Outside of that, all I can do is do my part, share as much information as possible, I guess. I think documentaries are a great way of getting a message across, plus, now they're trendy! Maybe there is hope for civilization yet. :P
